IEEE’s SCI In 2015 Pune city was selected as part of “IEEE – SCI Affiliated Smart Cities” ------ this was based on initiative of IEEE ( Pune Section) Considering the very high value of your application we would like to invite your city to become an Affiliated Smart City for the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative

MOU with PMC In 2015 IEEE ( Pune Section) signed a MOU with PMC in December 2015 As part of the MOU , IEEE (Pune section) was to facilitate promoting Pune’s smart city developments through various IEEE forums

ISC2 Invitation IEEE ( Pune Section) and PMC were invited to IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2) in Trento, Italy, 12-15 September 2016 Your participation to the ISC2 in Trento is very important, not only because you are expected to give a tutorial ……… but also as active members of the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative

ISC2 Invitation IEEE ( Pune Section) and PMC were invited to IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2) in Trento, Italy, 12-15 September 2016 Moreover, I would like to share our experiences on the promotion of smart city development. Indeed I think that your visit in Italy will be mutually beneficial to both parties. Your participation to the ISC2 in Trento is very important, not only because you are expected to give a tutorial ……… but also as active members of the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative

ISC2 The tutorial on ‘PUNE MODEL: Planning for a Smart City in a Developing country’ was presented by Prof GS Mani & Dr Surekha Deshmukh of IEEE (Pune Section); Total duration :3 Hours 30 Minutes

ISC2 A video by Mr. Kunalkumar Pune Municipal Commissioner. gave overview of the smart city initiative, vision, mission of city, citizen engagement program, plan of action, time frames etc.

ISC2 Prof GS Mani spoke on Pune’s plans to fit into the overall National Smart City Mission and how citizens are involved in the decision making processes.

ISC2 Dr Surekha presented the key issues initiated in Pune city including RAINBOW BRT, Pune City Cycle plan and Road redesigning at ABB area.

ISC2 The tutorial was attended by about 95 delegates from many countries including Brazil, Portugal, Mexico, Morocco, UK, USA, China, Singapore, Italy, Switzerland, Germany etc.

ISC2 The interactions showed keen interest of the audience especially because most of them were from western countries and their backgrounds are much different from our country.

ISC2 Major points of interactive discussions included : Typical smart city issues in a developing country Taking up development of smart city as a ‘Movement’ and enhancing trust level of common citizen in this movement Participation of Mayor/other elected bodies in the smart city initiatives Governance model of PMC Time frames for various initiatives taken up in Pune IEEE’s involvement with the Smart City plan of Pune Overall social and political scenario and its impact on the smart City movement

ISC2 Some of the genuine points appreciated by the audience included : Citizen Engagement program : Huge participation of citizens in competitions, surveys, statistics, war room activity, use of social media, door to door connectivity etc LAD and Pan City issues: Efforts taken to involve citizens in selection of Local Area for Development (LAD) and also finalizing the priority issues to be addressed across Pan City and LAD.

ISC2 Some of the genuine points appreciated by the audience included : NGOs participation in the movement : Dr. Alvaro D Oliveira, a leader on Living Labs/ consultant for BRICS on Urban Development took permission to talk about Pune’s model in BRICS and other forums. Strategic and systematic plan of action: Mayor and Consultant of Yucatan, Morocco, was keen to know details the planning and wanted to have more interactions on the same Research activities: Some Academic Researchers from Kansas City university and others wanted to use Pune Smart City Model for some of their research work.
