NY Department Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Celebrates the Civil War Sesquicentennial

150 years ago our nation began a four year struggle for its life

Brother Against Brother State Against State Brother Against Brother

And New York Answered the Call More than 450,000 New Yorkers Left their Homes

They came from the cities, they came from the towns, they came from the farms, 450,000 strong They put up their plows, they laid down their pens, they closed up their shops, and put off their crops,

then they marched away for the unknown

Over 46,000 Never Came Home
