Apprenticeships and NVQs update A first look at the changes and new support from ILM

Key emphasis today is on showcasing the Level 2/3 supporting resources but we are developing same for levels 4 and 5 too so important to recognise we may have higher level centres in the room.

ILM and employers ……….and don’t forget these are only a small proportion of the employers that work with our qualificaitons. Many more do so working in partnership with ILM centres/TPs 6

NVQs and Apprenticeships are changing Skills CFA own the management standards and have redeveloped the Qualifications and Apprenticeship Packages New suite of qualifications recognising current leadership and management practice Streamlined qualifications at levels 2 and 3 combining knowledge and competency New Level 4 Management apprenticeship Rogue to present. Snapshot of changes and why these have happened.

NVQs and Apprenticeships are changing New qualification sizes and rules of combination Reduction in Management and Leadership units from 72 to 67 Removal of knowledge based ‘technical certificate’ from lower level Apprenticeship packages

Current Qualifications These qualifications will retire on 31 August 2014: Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management & Leadership Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership These qualifications have been extended for a further 12 months Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading Level 3 NVQ in Management only available as ‘standalone’ qualifications The Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading and the Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership & Management (current technical certificates) will be reissued as 15 credit qualifications to meet funding rules but wont be available within apprenticeship frameworks. Worth mentioning that the ‘technical certificates’ at levels 2 and 3 are also likely to be retired at the same time e.g. Level 2 Cert in Team Leading, Level 2 Cert in Principles of Team Leading (on line tested qual) and the Level 3 Cert in Principles of Leadership & Management. Ask for feedback about this. Plan is to re-launch Level 2 Cert in T/L and Level 3 Cert in P of L & M as new 15 credit quals to meet SFA revised funding rules.

Apprenticeships from 1 September 2014 Four new Apprenticeships Packages: Level 2 Team Leading Apprenticeship Level 3 Management Apprenticeship Level 4 Management Apprenticeship Level 5 Management & Leadership Apprenticeship Highlight level 4 is completely new for ILM and offers exciting opportunities for centres

Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading The main change at Level 2 is the integration of the NVQ and VRQ New knowledge and competence hybrid units New Diploma sized 40 credit qualification Inclusion of business admin and customer service units in roc Refer to Q Card

Level 2 Apprenticeship New Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading Level 1 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT (England) Essential Skills (Wales) Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) Employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) available as a unit BA39 or a workbook from CFA Skills.

Level 3 Diploma in Management As with the Level 2 qualification the new Level 3 qualification is also a combined knowledge and competence qualification Increase in credit size to 55 credit Diploma qualification New knowledge and competence hybrid units Inclusion of business admin and customer service NOS units into roc

Level 3 Apprenticeship New Level 3 Diploma in Management Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT (England) Essential Skills (Wales) Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) Employee rights and responsibilities (ERR) available as a unit BA39 or a workbook from CFA Skills.

New Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Management A brand new NVQ qualification developed at Level 4 Purely competence based qualification A new 53 credits Diploma sized qualification Inclusion of business admin, customer service and sales & marketing NOS units New competence component of Apprenticeship package

New Level 4 Technical Diploma A brand new 37 credit level 4 Diploma ILM’s brand new L4 Diploma in the Principles of Leadership and Management, forms the knowledge component in the new ILM L4 Apprenticeship. Developed from a combination of mandatory and optional units. The new Diploma in the Principles of Leadership and Management maps across to the mandatory units helping to support delivery of the new L4 NVQ in Management. The choice of optional units allows centres to design a flexible programme Launching September 1st 2014.

Level 4 Apprenticeship New Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Management ILM Level 4 Diploma in the Principles of Leadership and Management Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) Employee rights and responsibilities No requirement to undertake Functional Skills qualifications for England. SASW specified 100 credit size for Welsh package due to requirement to still complete L2 Essential Skills in Maths & English

New Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management & Leadership New Level 5 NVQ qualification focussed on Management and Leadership Increase in credit value from 38 to 53 credits in line with new SASE/W Inclusion of business admin, customer service and sales & marketing NOS units Inclusion of Level 7 management & leadership units into roc Reminder that centres must already have changed to 53 credits

Level 5 Apprenticeship New Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management & Leadership ILM Level 5 Diploma in Principles of Leadership & Management Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) Employee rights and responsibilities Removal of mandatory requirement to undertake Functional Skills qualifications for England. Centre support - transition Comprehensive free learning resources and study support Over 60 brand new tailored e-learning videos, topic summaries and guidance notes covering Learning Outcomes at Levels 2 and 3 Comprehensive learner workbooks for all mandatory units at Levels 2 and 3, and mandatory NVQ units at Levels 3 and 5 Supporting you in adapting to the new assessment strategy Step by step assessment guidance for your learners and assessment team flexible assessment to meet customer and learner needs Variety of assessments for knowledge units including SAQs, case studies, assignments Hopefully we can showcase an example of the new Fuse videos at this point . More about the learner workbooks to follow in slide 16. More about assessment support to follow shortly – QCMs will cover so don’t go into too much detail here.

Delivery support Free learning resources Learner workbooks for each mandatory unit providing comprehensive coverage of the learning themes New learning resources as part of the free membership offer 60+ videos and PDFs together with action cards Access to the new Career Innovation centre Updated mapping to the Learning Zone Refer to example in pack of Ultimate resources, emphasise these will be provided in writeable pdfs so they can use electronically or print hard copies to meet learner needs. Rogue to provide input on when the books will be available. Centres to sign copywrite forms in their packs so we can forward workbooks when ready

Learner support Free membership for learners and trainers Extended studying membership for 2 years for all apprenticeship programmes For Higher level apprenticeships (levels 4 and 5) – full professional membership (at Affiliate level) NB you must provide us with learners’ email addresses at the point of registration Edge online the latest management news and research including exclusive articles direct to your inbox every week Emphasise how important ILM feels membership is to professionalising management as a career etc In order to access enhanced membership offer they must provide the email addresses so need to build this into their recruitment/registration processes. Please note that this slide and the extended membership offer has changed since the slides were printed as we are now offering 2 years membership to all levels of apprenticeship programmes .

Learner support LearningZone Designed to support ILM programmes and drive continuing professional development Over 400 e-learning resources including interactive sessions, video tutorials and written guides Updated mapping of LearningZone resources to units Updated mapping will be available before launch of the new quals

Assessment support Unique and comprehensive ILM assessment guidance and support materials for every unit Range of assessments for knowledge units including Structured Answer Questions (SAQs), assignments and case studies (for simulated units) Assessment strategy for your delivery team QCM to cover this section. Depending on time you could refer to sample unit in the pack – ask for feedback on how they might approach assessment of the unit and then hand out the sample of unit with assessment guidance which ILM has developed and confirm we are doing the same for all units which combine knowledge and competency. For knowledge only units we are developing a range of assessments for knowledge units similar to those we use on our exisiting VRQs. If available then show sample SAQ (still under development on 28/5) Talk about assessment strategy – Part A under development which provides information about assessment methods and draws on Cfa assessment strategy. Emphasise importance of verbs – refer to handout in pack and talk through using example of unit provided. Tracking documents – we will cover this in break out activity as we need your feedback .

Conversion Process A conversion form will be emailed to you following this presentation, please complete and return to ILM You will receive approval for qualifications on a like for like basis, to add new qualifications this will follow the usual process and costs Your existing qualification quality rating will remain unchanged until the next EV sample Start to develop your new Learner Journey ready to send to your EV prior to start of the programme If you wish to assess any imported BA or CS units via Evolve you will need to talk to your BDM/QCM Commence registrations from 1 September 2014 Refer to like for like qualifications sheet.

Remember! Please check any learners on the outgoing qualifications have been registered prior to 31 August 2014. You will not be able to register learners retrospectively All Learners registered on the outgoing qualifications will have three years from date of registration to complete their qualification
