Literacy Phonics Maths Notices Newsletter Reception Class 23rd September 2016 Literacy This week we have been reading ‘Funnybones and The Pet Shop’ by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. We have really enjoyed reading and talking about these series of books. Next week we will be starting our new topic which is Peter Pan, pirates, mermaids and fairies. Next week we will be concentrating on the beginning chapters of Peter Pan and fairies. This week we have been learning about how we grow and change. We have also been looking at and exploring our five senses. We have also had some exciting challenges in our classroom this week. These include animal number bone excavation, letter and sound treasure hunts and number sand and playdoh challenges. Phonics This week we have learnt two new sounds which are ‘i’ and ‘n’. We have been looking at their formations and have been finding different things around the classroom that start with these sounds. We also continued to practice reading cvc words. Maths This week we have been learning to order, recognise and write numbers 1-10. You have all tried very hard! Keep up the brilliant work! Next week we will be concentration on counting out sets of objects to match numbers 1-10. It would be fantastic if you could do some practice at home. Notices This weeks homework is sound ‘i’ and ‘n’ in your child’s sound book. Attached to this weeks newsletter there are some Star Moment slips. It would be lovely to hear about and share some of your child's magic moments at home with the class. These can include things like amazing drawings, magical experiences, writing and number accomplishments, sports, or any target that is unique to your child. You may want to add a picture or draw a picture together to illustrate their star moment. Many thanks for your continued support, Miss Brown.
