PARENT WRITING INFORMATION SESSION Term 3, 24th August 2016

Let us gather our thoughts on what we understand when we hear the word, ‘writing’.

It’s not only knowing that but knowing ‘how’

Six Traits of a Writer

What does good writing look like? It’s hard to make something if you don’t know what it looks like. That’s why it is valuable to look at models of good writing.

How do the different parts work together?

The Three Criteria that Every Idea Must Meet The main idea has to be a complete sentence. The main idea has to be something important to the author. The main idea has to be something that is important to the audience.

Ideas and details Interesting details help readers understand the main idea. Showing details help readers make pictures in their minds. Clear and meaningful purpose Something surprising or unusual that really works
