Who are The Poor?

Luke 4:18 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Revelation 3:17 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

Psalm 40:17 17 But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.

How Should We Treat the Poor?

Proverbs 14:21 21 He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Proverbs 14:31 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

Proverbs 19:17 17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.

Proverbs 21:13 13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard.

Proverbs 22:9 9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 28:27 27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses

Proverbs 31:9 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Psalm 82:3 3 Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Psalm 109:31 31 For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, To save him from those who condemn him.

The Blessings

Psalm 41:1-3 Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. 3 The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

Deuteronomy 15:7-8 8 but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs.
