Welcome to Mrs. Torrisi and Miss Stevens’ 2nd Grade Classroom We hope you enjoy the show!

Mrs. Torrisi My background: Graduated from Marist College with a Bachelors degree in Business/Finance and worked in the business world for 5 years. Earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a degree in Special Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Grew up in Montville, product of the Montville School System. Married 12 years, my son Ryan is 10 and my daughter Sophia is 8. My experience: This is my 20th year teaching. 13 years in 4th grade 7 years in 2nd grade All of which have been at Woodmont!

Miss Stevens My background Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania Graduated from Montclair State University, Bachelors degree in Family and Child Studies, with a concentration in Elementary Education, K-5th grade. Received my masters in Special Education in May 2014 from MSU My experience This is my eighth year teaching at Woodmont School. 3 years in 3rd grade, 1 year in 5th, 4 years in 2nd. Director for MEDLC at Woodmont

Our Goals Team Teach Have our students grow intellectually to the best of their own personal abilities! Create a fun and welcoming learning environment

Subjects Guided Math: Addition and Subtraction, Money, Two and Three digit addition and subtraction, Geometry and Fractions, Telling time, and numbers to the 1,000. Reading: Close reading, guided reading level based on child’s abilities Writing Workshop: Narrative, Informative, Opinion and Poetry Grammar: Sentences, nouns, verbs, adjectives, capitalization and punctuation.

Subjects Continued Fundations: our spelling/phonic program. Each week we learn new patterns and words. Children will have a Fundations Notebook to complete HW. Every Friday will be a test. Science: plants, animals, weather, seasons, dinosaurs, matter and energy, and space. Social Studies: government, geography, resources, long ago and far away, world cultures, and marketplace.

Tasty Traveling Tuesdays Starting in October! Flat Stanley book series will travel around the world! We will explore the culture and cuisine from adventures Flat Stanley embarks on. YUMMY =) Students will have the option to purchase a passport & journal which they will write in based on where they travel. (Approx. $4.00) Please fill out the Tasty Traveling brochure

Classroom Community Message/ Journal Rules- PawPrints Classroom Jobs Classroom Management - Sticker Chart (positive praise) Treasure Box Traffic Light choices

Homework Starting in September! Consist of math and spelling every night with 15 minutes of reading. (should take approx. 30 minutes) If your child is having an extremely hard time finishing the homework, or is taking a long time to complete, please contact us! PLEASE initial the assignment pad each night. We may leave you a note or you can leave us a note.

Reminders If you have any questions or concerns please email us at cherylyn.torrisi@montville.net and shaina.stevens@montville.net Birthdays: Please inform us at least two days prior to celebrating in class! If you send in food, all the ingredients must be visible, per the nurses request! (No nuts please!) Please send in your child’s smock and indoor recess bag if you haven’t done so already! For indoor recess, please no technology or valuable items.

Tasty Traveling Tuesday- please look at the brochure and order form for passport/journal. This is also found on the back table.
