Number your paper 1-5 1. The process of shedding an outgrown exoskeleton. 2. Type of metamorphosis with 4 different stages, egg, larva, pupa, and adult. 3. Chemical released by one animal that affects the behavior of another animal in the same species. 4. Type of metamorphosis - egg hatches into a nymph that resembles an adult – has no distinct larval stage. 5. System of fluid-filled tubes in an echinoderm’s body.

Master of Metamorphosis

How were you born? How did you grow into the person you are today? What changes has your body gone through?

Insects go through a series of changes in appearance so that they may develop into adults. These changes are called a metamorphosis.

There are two types of metamorphosis… Complete – in which the organism goes through all stages of development: Egg Larva Pupa Adult

Types continued And, Incomplete – in which the organism hatches from an egg into a nymph, then continues to grow until it reaches full size.

Example of incomplete metamorphosis The Mayfly (Ephemerella)

The Cicada

Example of Complete Metamophosis The Caddisfly

The Butterfly

The Dragonfly Is it a Complete or Incomplete Metamorphosis?
