graduates are in Computer Science 5/13/2018 The Job/Student Gap The STEM problem is in computer science 71% of all new jobs in STEM are in computing 8% Of STEM graduates are in Computer Science Everyone can read pie charts, sadly this is not one of those hilarious meme charts. I will just let the huge discrepancy of college students in STEM, which in itself is an area where students are not choosing, to the % of STEM jobs after graduation that needs a CS background. 2015 AP CS Snapshot The numbers we just saw indicate that we’re not seeing nearly enough computer science graduates. So now let’s look at where things stand before college, at the high school level. This graph shows the number of AP exams taken, by subject, last school year. Look at where Computer Science is on the spectrum. This raises a question – why are so few students taking AP Computer Science? Is it because of lack of interest or lack of exposure? Given the importance of CS in the national and global economy, it really should fall more with subjects like Physics, Biology, and Economics GOOD NEWS: # of CS exams grew by 25% from 2014, vastly more than any other exam!
