Fluorophos test The fluorophos test works by measuring the light emitted when a monophosphoric ester (mPE)is added to milk. The amount of light emitted is proportionate to the amount of residual alkaline phosphatase present in the milk.

Fluorophos test Residual Alkaline phosphatase ALP

Fluorophos test + monophosphoric ester ALP mPE

Fluorophos test + Light ALP mPE

Pasteurised milk 72°C/15 Secs 63°C/30 Mins ALP

Pasteurised milk 72°C/15 Secs A ALP P 63°C/30 Mins L + mPE

Pasteurised milk 72°C/15 Secs A ALP P 63°C/30 Mins L + mPE No light

Fluorophos test The more light that is measured means that there is more residual alkaline phosphatase present in the milk. A reading > 350 mU/L suggests that the heat treatment has not been successful or the milk has been contaminated.
