The Coronation of Solomon The United Kingdom Lesson 24 The Coronation of Solomon 1 Kings 1:1 – 2:46

A Change of Succession How insurrection sought the throne How intrigue saved the throne How intercession secured the throne

How insurrection sought the throne 1 Chronicles 28:6: “Solomon your son is the one who will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.”

How intrigue saved the throne Nathan’s faithfulness as a friend: God’s covenant with David/descendants (2 Samuel 7) Shepherded David through his adultery (2 Samuel 12) Helped David organize worship in the sanctuary (2 Chronicles 29:25-26) Told the Lord also named Solomon Jedidiah (2 Samuel 12)

Nathan’s Plan 1. Enlist the help of Bathsheba 2. Confirm Bathsheba’s facts 1 Kings 1:27: “Is this something my lord the king has done without letting his servants know who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

Nathan’s Plan 1. Enlist the help of Bathsheba 2. Confirm Bathsheba’s facts 1 Kings 1:29: “As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble, I will surely carry out today what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”

Key Points of the Coronation Solomon on a mule

David’s Dying Words to Solomon 1 Kings 2:2-3: “Be strong, show yourself to be a man – observe what the Lord your God requires – walk in His ways.”

David’s Dying Words to Solomon 1 Kings 2:4: “If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.”

David’s Dying Words to Solomon 1 Chronicles 28:9: “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches the heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you: but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.”

David’s Dying Words to Solomon Personally, be a man Spiritually, know God Morally, walk in His ways

To pass it on, we need to live it now.

A Man After God’s Own Heart Rests With His Fathers

A Sunrise of new king’s era!

In deposing Abiathar, Solomon fulfilled the prophecy given to Eli that his family would not continue in the priesthood (1 Samuel 2:27-36)

Numbers 35:33: “Do not pollute the land where you are Numbers 35:33: “Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.”

1 Kings 2:35: “The king put Benaniah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab’s position and replaced Abiathar with Zadok the priest.”

2 Samuel 16:12: “It may be that the Lord will see my distress and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today.”

When Someone Criticizes Us It usually comes when it’s least deserved It usually comes when we least need it It usually comes from those least qualified to give it It usually comes in a form least helpful to us

1 Kings 2:9: “But now, do not consider him (Shemei) innocent 1 Kings 2:9: “But now, do not consider him (Shemei) innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood.”

1 Chronicles 22:9: “You will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.”

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
