Essential Question: How do I calculate my GPA?

GPA GPA stands for Grade Point Average It is a numerical representation of all grades A traditional GPA can range from 0 to 4.0 GPA is one of the major factors that determines which colleges you can get into Each grade you earn is worth a certain number of points A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 Remember: 100 - 90 = A 89 - 80 = B 79 - 74 = C 73 - 70 = D < 70 = F

Calculating GPA To calculate a GPA, follow these steps: Write down each letter grade Turn each letter grade into a number (remember A – 4, B – 3, C – 2, … Add all the numbers together Divide by the total number of classes Example Dominick earned an A in Science, a B in Social Studies, an A in Math, a C in Language Arts, and a C in French. He gets 4 points for each A, 3 points for his B, and 2 points for each C 4 + 3 + 4 + 2 +2 = 15. He took 5 classes so we divide by 5. 15/5 = 3.0, Dominick’s GPA is 3.0

3.0 – B average, 2.0 – C average, 1.0 – D average Extras Because an A is worth 4 points, a 4.0 GPA is an A average 3.0 – B average, 2.0 – C average, 1.0 – D average 3.5 – half A’s, half B’s 2.5 – half B’s, half C’s 1.5 – half C’s, half D’s

Practice Problems John’s grades: math – A, science – B, Language Arts – C, Social Studies D, AVID B, French C. Alexia’s grades: AVID – A, Social Studies, A, Language Arts – A, Math – B, Science – B, French – A, Art – A. Calvin’s grades: Art – C, French – A, Math – B, Science – A, LA – B, Social Studies - B, Reading - B
