History

„Native Americans“ migrated from Asia First European settlers came in 15th century British colonies were established in this area US was officially founded on July 4, 1776 – British colonies declared their independence The war between colonies and their allies – France and Spain – against Britain ensued In 1783, America won

In 1789, the US drafted the constitution and George Washington became the first president America expanded greatly in 19th century America bought Louisiana from France, Alaska from Russia The southern states tried to leave the union, they formed Confederate States of America, which led to the Civil war (1861 – 1865) North won and ended slavery

America kept expanding after the Civil war – Cuba, Philippines Gradually more states were added, current number is 50 United States fought in both world wars side by side Britain and France USA became one of the superpowers (USSR was the other one) after the second world war and followed by 40 years of Cold war

In response the United States launched the War on Terror On September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda terrorists struck the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C.
