Success Criteria 1/11/2017 1.We can identify the parts from Unit 2 on the Midterm.    2.We can compare and contrast the components of the Midterm from Unit 2.   3.We can analyze political cartoons in order to understand the role of campaign finance on politicians.  4.We can evaluate our knowledge of Unit 3 by completing an exit ticket. Answer in a complete sentence What happens to the amount of representatives a state receives if they lose population to another state? What happens to the amount of money they receive from taxes? Which class do you feel the most confident about the upcoming midterm? Why is that?

Challenge! Who can name every level of the Executive Branch?? Who can name the actual people in them?

Participation Voting Selecting the person who best represents your needs/ideas Referendum When citizens are allowed to vote directly on issues

How does the gov’t know about the people in their nation? Demographics Statistical information about specific populations. Why do we study them? They tell us where to spend gov’t funding and resources

How do we ensure everyone is represented? Reapportionment fairly dividing seats in the HoR between the states when population changes. How Does it Work When states gain people, the gain reps, and vice versa

Who else plays a large role in the gov’t? Interest groups An organization with one goal that organizes to influence lawmakers How do they influence the gov’t? They provide candidates with money and research to vote for their issue

Who else plays a large role in the gov’t? Good or bad? Good – allow lawmakers to worry about many issues Bad - politicians vote how interest groups tell them Campaign finance Money given to politicians to help them win elections
