The Underground Railroad Canada was the only safe place because when slaves reach Canada they aren’t slaves any more. (They become free). The Underground Railroad was not a railroad nor was it underground. The Underground Railroad was a path for runaway slaves to get to safety.

The Underground Railroad The Underground Railroad, a vast network of people who helped fugitive slaves escape to the North and to Canada, was not run by any single organization or person. The South lost 100,000 slaves between 1810 and 1850. Slave traders

The Underground Railroad Harriet Tubman was one of the slaves. She heard that a slave trader bought her son, so she refused to let them have him. She ran away on the Underground Railroad to make it to safety
