Stafford Act After Nov. 1, 2004, only communities, tribes, and states with a FEMA-approved mitigation plan will become eligible to receive mitigation funds following a presidentially declared disaster. The development of a local hazard mitigation plan provides a significant opportunity to reduce the nation’s disaster losses through mitigation planning.

Study Approach Identify the Hazards Impacting the Community Document the History: Fatalities, Injuries, $ Damages Assess the Vulnerabilities Conclusions Identify Mitigation Measures

To provide guidance for community activities for the next five years. Objective To provide guidance for community activities for the next five years. To ensure that the City and other partners implement activities that are most effective and appropriate for mitigating natural and man-made hazard.

Current Situation The City of Bixby’s Hazard Mitigation Plan was approved by FEMA on March 31, 2004. To remain valid, the HM Plans must be Updated every 5 years. Bixby’s HM Plan expires on March 31, 2009

Bixby’s Delimna: A Community MUST have an Approved Hazard Mitigation Plan before FEMA will fund a HMGP, PDM, FMA, Repetitive Loss Claims (RLC), or Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) Grant. Bixby’s Plan Expires on March 31, 2009 FEMA will not approve funding for a Grant until the Community has an Approved Plan, which may be as late as Oct. 2010 (Approx. 22 months from 3/31/09).
