RAQUEL QUESADA GUERRERO BACK TO THE PAST! RAQUEL QUESADA GUERRERO CEIP PABLO PICASSO

A NEED TO KNOW I want kids to know we are products of the past (conection past-present) I want to make students aware of how past cultures lived and thought (specially the Romans) I want to make students aware of the relationships among different cultures. I want students to discover why and how cultures in ancient history disappeared.

CALP PREVIOUS WORDS NEW WORDS ANCIENT GREEKS CARTHAGINIANS ROMAN EMPIRE ROMANIZATION TRADE PHOENICIAN ALPHABET NAVIGATORS COINS SENATORS GODS DEMOCRACY OLYMPIC GAMES ILLITERATE WARRIORS GERMANIC TRIBES ROMAN LAW CHRISTIANITY SIEGE PUBLIC SPEAKERS NOMADS VISIGOTHIC KINGDOM

ADVANCE ORGANISER Do you know these people? Have you ever read any comic about them? What about the film? Have you seen it? Who were exactly these people? What was the name of the culture they belonged to? Where did they live? Who did they fight against? Do you know other cultures in ancient times like the one in the picture living in Spain? How did these people live? Who did they fight against? Why? What happened to these cultures when Romans arrived to the Iberian peninsula?

DRIVING QUESTION COULD YOU SHOW YOUR CLASSMATES HOW WAS A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE ROMANS ACTING OUT LIKE THEM?

BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills) Could you repeat that, please? I am not sure to have understood What can you say about ….? What do you think about……? What does…………..mean? I take your point but…… I agree to a certain extent but…. You make a valid point but….. In my view…… Could you speak a little bit louder? Something good in the role play was / something to improve in the role play was……..

RULES Your role-play must be all in English. Think carefully how many characters your role-play will have and who represents each of them. You should think in advance what exactly your group wants to act out: * A whole day in the life of Romans * A specific moment of the day: during the breakfast, the lunch…. * A specific event in their lifes: celebrating the Sporting Games… * A specific moment in the life of women or kids or a soldier…. You have to familiarize yourself with different aspects in Roman daily life. Once you know what you are going to do, write down the play script in groups and start rehearsing.
