Raspberry pi controlled greenhouse Growing plants with the help of electronics

What this project is for For finding the most efficient way to grow specific agricultural plants. Gardeners that want to grow more tropical plants in non-tropical areas. For growing plants on other planets or in space. Spend less time working in the garden and more time enjoying it.

Raspberry pi A Raspberry pi zero The Raspberry pi is a small Linux based computer. The Raspberry pi has pin outs to modify what it can do. A Raspberry pi 3

Simple Schematic of my project

Sensors for this project For sensing humidity and temperature I used the DHT22 sensor. For the light sensor I used a photocell which changes resistance in an electrical circuit when light hits it. A ground water sensor I made from 2 nails and some plastic.

Cost of the project Raspberry pi zero starter pack: $35 DHT22 sensor: $10 Computer fan: $10 Photocell and a capacitor: $1 2 nails, silicon, and a capacitor: $5 Total: $61

Hooking up the sensors Raspberry pi and DHT22 hooked up to oscilloscope. The signal from the DHT22 sensor

What my project does right now Reads and logs the temperature and humidity every 15 minutes. If your temperature reads higher than set temperature it turns on a fan. Reads and logs how much sunlight your greenhouse gets. Will turn on a light when the plants soil is dry.

Future additions I want to make a system to water the plants. Add vents that the Raspberry Pi could open and close. Add to the program to make it log all the data into an excel spreadsheet.

Total cost of my future project Cost so far: $61 Stepper motor: $15 Solenoid valve for watering nozzles: $20 10 gallon container for water: $10 Greenhouse: $500-1500 Total $600-1600
