Flipped Learning

Flip Your Classrom Aaron Sams & Jon Bergman

“moving the lectures outside of class meetings and [replacing] it with videos and materials that can be accessed by students at home. This change frees up the class period to engage in more active-learning exercises.” (Bergman & Sams, 2012)

Does Flipping Require Tech?

General Sylvanus Thayer Father of Westpoint Flipping the classroom in the earliest 19th century Gross, B., Desimone, K., Hoffman, M., DeSimone, K., & Burke, P. (2015). Flipped @ SBUY: Student Satisfaction and the College Classroom. Educational Research Quarterly, 39(2), 36–52.

“at its core, the flip involves shifting the focus from the facilitator to the learners” Dunham, N., Owen, H., & Heta-Lensen, Y. (2015). Explorations into Becoming New, Radical, and Quite Possibly Dangerously Progressive within an Aotearoa New Zealand Context. Education Sciences, 5(2), 65–84. doi:10.3390/educsci5020065

Three Concerns with Flipping Not all students have internet access at home. Teachers need a lot of technical skill to create and record video presentations. Lack of student engagement.
