Welcome to & Welcome back to Quail Valley Middle School Choral Program A presentation of choir concert etiquette by Jessie James Director of Choral Activities

The next slides show how we make it happen. Our Core Values Achievement Commitment Excellence This is what we believe in! The next slides show how we make it happen.

Concert Etiquette Do’s Before the concert, Dress comfortably and exclude all fragrances (except deodorant). Make sure you plan ahead and be prompt. Walk in with music, binder, and pencil if applicable. Sign in on the attendance log as you enter. During the concert, Minimize all side bar conversations. Keep technology on vibrate or do not disturb. Exit the concert hall discreetly for an emergency, but never during the middle of a song selection. After the concert, Make sure you have not left any personal belongings behind. Leave peacefully.

Non-Varsity and Varsity Choir Concert Attire This is our dress. It can be rented (first come, first served) or purchased. Accessories: None Free of fragrance Shoes- black, closed-toe flat shoe This is our attire. It can be rented (first come, first served) or purchased. Shoes- black, closed-toe Stacy Adam style

Beginner Choir Concert Attire Beginner choir students wear white button down shirts with black bottoms. These items can be purchased at your local department stores. Accessories: None Free of fragrance Shoes- black, closed-toe flat shoe (dark socks) Points will be deducted from your grade if you are out of dress code! If you are unsure about what to wear, ALWAYS allow a uniform check to be conducted by me at least one week PRIOR to the concert.

Frequently Asked Questions What can I wear that’s not listed for concert attire? It is imperative that you dress according to the guidelines provided. Please bring in any garment you have questions about for final approval. Where will the concert take place? Concert venues will always be provided to you at least one month prior to the scheduled event. You will receive reminders on my teacher’s page, via email, and in our monthly newsletter. What happens if I don’t attend the concert? There are three concerts that have mandatory attendance requirements. The fall concert, the winter concert, and the spring concert. These concerts are graded as major assignments. If any are missed, you will have to attend a concert of similar format and turn in a one page typed critique along with a copy of the program. The highest grade that can be earned is a 75 for the alternate assignment. The assignment must be turned in no later than three weeks after our concert. How can I request a change to the section or voice part I sing? Each time you participate in a concert, you will be asked what voice parts you’d like to be considered for. Depending on the repertoire, among other things, I will determine what voice part you’d be most suitable for. How do I audition for solos? Announcements for solo audition sign-ups will be given at the opening or closing of a rehearsal/ class specified by the chorus director.
