A tear is 1% water and 99% feelings. Coping with loss A tear is 1% water and 99% feelings. Understanding the Experience of Grief There are five to seven stages often associated with the grieving process. They may be experienced as denial, pain, anger, bargaining, depression, upward turn, reconstruction, and acceptance. The experience can feel like a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, mood swings, and erratic behavior.

Coping with loss David and Jonathan: The first time Jonathan saw David in 1 Sam 18 The realisation of what their friendship would costs in 1 Sam 20 Jonathan risking his life to find and encourage David in 1 Sam 23 David receiving the news that Jonathan has been killed.

Using images to give voice to grief Coping with loss : 2 Samuel 1 vv. 20-21 Using images to give voice to grief Tell it not in Gath,     proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines be glad,     lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice. Mountains of Gilboa,     may you have neither dew nor rain,     may no showers fall on your terraced fields. For there the shield of the mighty was despised,     the shield of Saul—no longer rubbed with oil.

Focusing on good memories Coping with loss 2 Samuel 1 vv. 22-23 Focusing on good memories From the blood of the slain,     from the flesh of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan did not turn back,     the sword of Saul did not return unsatisfied. Saul and Jonathan,     in life they were loved and admired,     and in death they were not parted. They were swifter than eagles,     they were stronger than lions.

Retelling to move forward Coping with loss 2 Samuel 1 vv. 19, 25, 27 Retelling to move forward A gazelle lies slain on your heights, Israel.     How the mighty have fallen! How the mighty have fallen in battle!     Jonathan lies slain on your heights. How the mighty have fallen!     The weapons of war have perished!
