10th LX Navigation Cup 29 Apr 2017 07 May 2017

Purpose of this „contest”: The aim of this „gathering” is for you, friends and pilots, to gain experience from one another, and for the exchange of information. All of you will receive information about the latest LX Navigation products. This is a Cat 2 IGC registered competition, and pilots will be looking for points, but we want to maintain the friendly atmosphere that is a trade mark of this place: this is in no way „a cut-throat contest”. All of you have been invited to take part in this event. The entry fee will be covered by the two sponsors, the LX Navigation owner, Crtomir , and Aeroclub Alföldi. Other sponsors will donate the comp. Gergo will manage the scoring. lf there are other than scoring penalties (and there will be such penalties, I assure you) they will not be given in points, but in drinks (ex. beer), and various „tasks”. This means that you, the participants, are expected to act in the most sportsman-like manner. We would be sorry to have to expel anybody for a purposeful breach of any rules. This is an FAI competition though.

Three main rules are in the order, please respect them : 1 - Respect the airspace specifications of the day. Two violations, and you will be asked to become a crew member for other „obedient” pilots. 2 - Use of the airport : You may have noticed, this is a grass airfield, so please, use your car only to bring your glider on the grid, or bring it back to its parking place once you have pushed it out of the runway ! We insist on keeping the airport area clean. If you really want to smoke, then there is a designated area. Throwing a cigarette butt on the ground will cost you a case of beer, plus a session of picking up cigarette butts. 3 – Dinner starts at 7 pm sharp, every evening. Being late for dinner is a penalty (we need money for the closing party). Participating to the dinners is mandatory!!

Grid: Gridding is „free”, meaning that for a smooth running, the Open Class ships will grid first from 08.00 till 08.30, at the far end of the take-off area, then the 18M Class from 08.30 till 09.00, in front of the Open Class. And the rest of the competition will grid last, from 09.00, up front. In case we start to the south, there will be two grids : the one you know, starting from the hangar (runway 16), and the one beside, where the Antonov is at the moment (runway 18). No gridding without the presence and the help of a „marshall” (Geza or Gergo).

Towing and take-offs: Towing : Towing is up to 600 meters in the west of the airfield. Four tow-planes, two Pawnees, one Belanca, one Cmelak, will bring you, into a thermal, as often as possible. Relights : If you need a relight, please radio your need in advance on 123.2, the competition frequency, and land on the runway which will be mentioned in the morning. Runways : two of them. 16/34 with 1000m and 18/36 with 750m Usually take-offs will be on 16/18, and landings on 34/36.

Arrival procedure: Radio your competition number 10 kilometres out, on 123.200 MHz. The centre of the finish circle (three kilometres radius) is 4 kilometres away from the airfield, between Szeged and Szatymaz. You are required to enter the finish cylinder above 380m QNH. The name of the checkpoint is „ingyensör” – meaning „free beer”.

Safety: You are around 61 pilots in 55 gliders. It is thus very important that you : 1-Make a long landing when there is a bunch of gliders arriving at the same time. 2- Clear the runway ASAP. 3- Help the pilots landing behind you. 4- Wait after the rush to bring your glider to her spot !!

Landings: Normal landings (direct or over flight, joining the runway in use, landing pattern west of the runway) will be on the main runway (16-34). If there are several gliders landing at the same time, then please make a long landing, a really long-long one, to the very end of the runway, and wait for the others to land as well, before towing your glider back to its parking place. After landing, you are always required to pull your glider out of the runway. Pilots should help one another moving the gliders off the runway. In case the main runway is fully congested, the secondary runway (18-36) is then available.

Emergency landings: (in case of engine failure or cable break) To the north, there is an emergency landable strip (200m) north of the airfield, north-east of runway 18/36. landable area landable area

Emergency landings: (in case of engine failure or cable break) To the south, there is another green area, between the railway and the industrial plant. The area between the plant and the south of the airfield is absolutely un-landable. un-landable area landable area

Briefings: Briefing will take place every morning in the extension of the „Hilton”, at 10 am. During the competition we will use the FAI rules and the Hungarian HC list. All important information will be available on the task sheet. It is of the utmost importance that no-one infringes any of the forbidden airspaces ! Especially the military zone at Kecskemét (MTCR) and the Paks Atomic Plant, and the new buffer one. Agreements about this will be posted on the task sheet of the day

Miscellaneous (various): Do not use your car to go to the „rest rooms” Rest means rest !! So, tire yourself a little, walk before you get there…, and get some rest ! We have shower rooms, in a container and behind it. 3+2 persons, (not in the same shower please) in the camping area Once your glider is on the grid, please move your car into the forest, or to the parking area. No car should be in front of the starting gliders, especially when using runway 34. Internet : Internet is available everywhere on the airfield. There is no need for a password. 1- SZATYMAZ AIRPORT WIFree 2- Briefing_room 3- Camping Drinks : there is a slate for your orders at Sue’s beer bar: Give your name to her. There is a second bar open at the Hilton.

Miscellaneous (various): Pilots with more than one car, there is not enough room „in the trees”, so please, use the parking by the flags and leave the second car there. Please, please, use the cars only for towing and retrieving the gliders, not for any other use !! Richard Bartof showed the way, he and his family only use their bikes now: he will get two bottles, not one, if he ever wins a day ! 16/34 is the main runway. Never cross it. Go up to the northern end to get to the other side, and to come back. This year there are TWO classes, so please don’t rush, and block the grid. In any case, getting your class in the air will not take more than half an hour on any day.

Miscellaneous (various): Very important : the military have been more than helpful and we will benefit from more airspace, but do not get the whole Hungarian gliding movement in trouble by infringing the limits. The rules will be published in the file every morning. We will use the OGN. The military will check the flarm signals. So make sure all your flarm are working properly. In order to let the people on the ground follow the competition, please accept to appear on the OGN, with your call sign. Is anybody against this ??

Szeged airport and airspace: Within a 5 km radius from the airport, if you are under 800m QNH, call them on 122.8. If you have to land there, you should say it was an „emergency” landing, due to safety reasons. Otherwise, they will charge you !!

Szatymaz airport: There is an electric gate at the entrance. If you are not a new pilot here, just call the gate at +36703529776, and it will open. If you are a new pilot and have not registered your number for the gate, you first have to send an SMS with your name from your mobile phone to get it registered. This registration process takes some time, so please do it before you need it. The gate automatically shuts after 30 seconds. NEW : this airport is under constant improvement (penalties pay for it !! And Peter is a great collector) Excellent ice creams are now available by the „HILTON” We have a not-new beer pipeline (two brews) at „Sue s Beer House” Last but not least : new coffee machines!! The sauna and the swimming pool are in working order. Don’t mix them with the cellar !!….

Organization: Organiser, and Task Setter: Peter Szabo Competition Director, and briefings: Jean-Renaud Faliu, alias „JR” Weather : Andras Gyöngyösi, is not on site but will send infos in the morning, from Prievitza, using Top Meteo and Meteo Blue Weather item: meteo.aeroclubalfoldi.hu.
