Quality Initiative for a Safety, Infection prevention by Safe-I in Health Care DR.RAJENDRAKUMAR BIDARI DMD. BEST SAFE - I HOSPITAL IN INDIA SAGAR HOSPITALS DSI-BANGALORE Introduction Results The overall awareness of the health care workers regarding infection control has improved leading to better adherence to infection control practices Hand hygiene compliance has improved All device associated infection rates have come down like Cather associated urinary tract infection rates, ventilator associated pneumonia rates, Phlebitis rate, surgical site infection rates, Bed sore rate. Overall hospital associated infection rates have come down. Antibiotic prescription pattern and its usage has improved. The Sagar Hospitals-DSI is a landmark healthcare services institution that is ISO 9001 certified (2014), enjoying a unique reputation of being a popular destination for both Indian and International patients seeking treatment at an affordable cost. This is a tertiary care Super-specialty hospital  with 415 Beds, the state-of-the-art medical equipment’s like 128 Slice Cardiac-CT , 1.5 Tesla Total Imaging Matrix(TIM)-MRI , 22 Bed Capacity Cubicle ICU with Isolation room, Cardiac catheterization lab facility- Flat Panel and NABL accredited laboratory. This is the First Hospital in the state of Karnataka to be certified by NABH SAFE- I (December 2014) for hospital infection control. The hospital has also been certified by Medical Tourism Quality Alliance USA. (July 2015) for providing excellent medical treatment and care at a price they can afford. Activities which have resulted in an improvement to patient safety   Continuous surveillance for device associated and other nosocomial infections. Renewal of hospital antibiotic policy Monitoring for MDRs Continuation of quarterly news letter ‘HICC News letter’ Continuous documented training regarding infection control practices for doctors, nursing , technicians as well as housekeeping staffs Vaccination of dietary staff, HKS & HCWs against Hepatitis B. Conducting audit for prescription practices , surgical prophylaxis and hand hygiene . Continuous monitoring for chlorination of sump water & ETP plants Monitoring cleaning and disinfection activities at the hospital . Periodic replacement of HEPA filters in OT. Renovation of dietary kitchen Improvisation in patient’s isolation with ICU and ward isolation facility. SUMMARY Sagar hospital –DSI, Bangalore is the first hospital in the state of Karnataka to be certified by NABH SAFE- I for hospital infection control. Our endeavors like Continued, ongoing, documented patient/environmental surveillance for prevention of hospital acquired infections sustained with regular training for all HCW’s(Health care worker’s) and audits have gone a long way in patient safety. Further good sterilization & disinfection practices, usage of patient safety devices, bundle care check lists , timely patient isolation practices /facilities, patient information leaflets regarding infection control, conducting public awareness during outbreak situations have all added to our efforts in successfully decreasing the hospital acquired infection rates and overall improvement in providing quality care for patients.
