What Did The Apostles Think? and what can we learn from them? What Did The Apostles Think?

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. (John 12:16 ESV)

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king On Monday, He seemed to wield influence Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (John 12:20-23 ESV)

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king On Monday, He seemed to wield influence …When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, (John 12:36-37 ESV)

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king On Monday, He seemed to wield influence On Tuesday/Wednesday, Things got busy Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him. (Matthew 26:14-16 ESV)

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king On Monday, He seemed to wield influence On Tuesday/Wednesday, Things got busy On Thursday, It was time to prepare…

A busy evening Jn. 13:7- Jesus washed the disciples feet… 1 Cor. 11:23-26- He instituted THE Supper Jn. 14:1- Disciples were troubled, not understanding

What were they thinking? About Jesus’ sudden solitude On Friday, Jesus went to Bethany for supper On Sunday, He entered Jerusalem like a king On Monday, He seemed to wield influence On Tuesday/Wednesday, Things got busy On Thursday, It was time to prepare… On Friday, He was arrested

What were they thinking? 6 mock trials with false witnesses and Pilate’s declaration of innocence 3 times About 6am, given to the Roman soldiers About 9am, He was nailed, lifted up About 12pm, darkness for 3 hours “Truly, this was the Son of God”

What were they thinking? But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. (Mark 16:11 ESV) Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. (John 20:8-9 ESV)

Maybe we can learn from them… We may not have the big picture We’re not appreciating the sacrifice, or the kingdom We forget Satan is secretly working We’re not serious about serious matters When we’re ready to give up is when Jesus does his greatest work

Shall we learn to see God’s agenda? And trust His word? Be alert for Satan? And give Jesus room to work?
