What Is My Destiny?

Revelation 1. It is a complex book. 2. It is a book given to reveal. 3. It falls within the genre of Biblical literature known as apocalyptic.

Apocalyptic Literature It was brought about by “an hour of desperate need.” Most of this kind of literature was written between 200 BC and 100 AD, when the Jewish nation was struggling for its existence.

Apocalyptic Literature It was always relevant to the historical situation of the day. It makes use of symbols and visions, which to us might seem odd, but to the first readers would have been understood.

Revelation 4. It is written to and for a church under attack. 5. It concerns “what must soon take place” with respect to its original hearers.

Christ is with His churches and knows their problems. Revelation The Big Picture Chapters 1-3: “the things which are” Christ is with His churches and knows their problems.

Revelation The Big Picture Chapters 1-3: “the things which are” Chapters 4-22: “the things which must take place” Christ’s enemies will make things difficult for His people, but He will defeat and destroy them.

What Is My Destiny? But what about in the meantime? ✔ We can know with certainty our destiny. But what about in the meantime? ✔ For those who refuse to come to and follow Jesus, their destiny is His wrath / judgment. ✔ For those who come to and follow Jesus, their destiny is eternal life.
