Modern Issues Fishbowl

Question 1 Is the neo-liberal worldview developed during the 1970’s a positive force for the global market or a form of economic imperialism?

Question 2 Do Trans-National Corporations (TNCs) have a responsibility to assist nations in which they operate with economic stability/improvement?

Question 3 Are the dangers associated with a global economic market, such as the “lost decade” of Latin America and the recent global economic recession, worth the risk or is more oversight and control needed by governments?

Question Assuming the dominance of America in the global economy for much of the post-WWII era was built on taking advantage of a global market, are our complaints regarding trade imbalances and outsourcing justifiable?

Question 5 Do you agree with the statement that “the values and interests of global corporations– should supersede all other values” in the global economic market?

Question 6 Should America use its economic standing to manipulate the actions of people and governments across the globe?

Question 7 If TNCs continue to grow and exploit areas who have few environmental regulations, should organizations like the WTO step in and regulate those corporations or should it continue to be left up to the individual countries/regions?

Question 8 Overall, has the growth of a globalized economy been a positive or negative experience?
