Task Instructions Congratulations! the discussion group that you led at the SME business conference went down so well that they have asked you to appear as a guest speaker at the next conference. This time they want you to present a paper on Recruitment and Selection processes with a particular emphasis on ensuring that recruitment and Human Resource planning activities are carried out in an effective and legal manner. They also want you to outline the need for / regulations surrounding staff welfare provision This time they do not want you to make a presentation as such, they just want you to prepare a business report with full Harvard referencing outlining your views on the above subjects to be distributed to conference delegates who are unable to attend your session

PLEASE NOTE THIS PAPER WILL BE PRESENTED TO A PROFESSIONAL AUDIENCE, SO IT WILL NEED TO BE WRITTEN AT A VERY HIGH STANDARD FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT YOUR STRUCTURE, REFERENCING AND SPELLING/GRAMMAR WILL ACCOUNT FOR 25% OF YOUR TOTAL MARKS

Structural Guidance 1 This is a paper that will be given out at a conference so you will be expected to present it with an abstract attached – the abstract does not count towards your word count The abstract should tell the reader a) what the report is about b) What key topics it covers c) Any conclusions or recommendations

1. Introduction You need to tell your audience exactly what the paper is about You need to give them a definition of all the key concepts that will be used You need to indicate the structure of the paper by outlining the sections that are available and what each contains

2. Recruitment and Selection processes Make sure that you provide sufficient differentiation between recruitment processes and selection processes What processes are available in both cases Outline the advice on process given by relevant authorities on the matter (Armstrong, CIPD etc) Describe each element of the processes that they recommend What steps do conference participants need to take to ensure that these activities are carried out in an effective and legal manner.

2. Recruitment and Selection processes (continued) What legislation, regulations and codes of practice tell you the legal standards that need to be obeyed What are these legal standards How can you judge the effectivity of your recruitment and selection processes

3. Staff welfare What rationale can be given for good staff welfare provision (economic, legal, ethical, business, recruitment and retention) What are the sources of the regulations surrounding staff welfare provision What do these regulations say What are the minimum requirements What would best practice look like in this field

4. Conclusions and recommendations What recommendations would you make to your audience in terms of Recruitment and selection processes Staff Welfare provision Outline the key arguments that support your recommendations
