Outline: What is matter, atom, element and compound. Chemistry in the kitchens and food. Chemistry in the human body. Chemistry in the surrounded environment.

What’s the Matter All of the materials around you are made up of matter. You are made up of matter, as are the chair you sit on and the air you breathe.

MATTER AND ATOMS Matter-anything that has mass and occupies space.

Atoms Atom- the smallest unit of life that can not be broken down by Chemical means atoms are made of proton, neutron and electron

Ions Ion- an atom that has an electrical charge because it has gained or lost electrons

ELEMENTS Element- a substance made of only one kind of atom It is considered a pure substance. there are more than 100 known elements; the periodic Table of the Elements is a reference guide to them. elements are represented by symbols of either one, two, or three letters. examples: Fe(iron) Na(Sodium)

Compound Compound- a substance made of joined atoms of two or more different substances. You may also see the word molecule which for our purposes, means the same thing as a compound.

Chemistry in kitchens and food: Onions: Sulfur element cells break volatile sulfured compounds into the air react with the eyes sulfuric acid burning sensation brain sends signs to the eyes. - High temperature will slow down the chemical reaction of the volatile sulfured. pressure cooker: Combined Gas Low: P1V1 = P2V2 T1 T2

OXYGEN Chemistry in the human body: We breathe air that is 21 percent oxygen, and we require oxygen to live. So you might think that breathing 100 percent oxygen would be good for us -- but actually it can be harmful. So, pure oxygen is generally bad, and sometimes toxic OXYGEN

What Are the Elements in the Human Body? Most of the human body is made up of water, H2O, with cells consisting of 65- 90% water by weight. Therefore, it isn't surprising that most of a human body's mass is oxygen. Carbon, the basic unit for organic molecules, comes in second. 99% of the mass of the human body is made up of just six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. Oxygen (65%) Carbon (18%) Hydrogen (10%) Nitrogen (3%) Calcium (1.5%) Phosphorus (1.0%) Potassium (0.35%) Sulfur (0.25%) Sodium (0.15%) Magnesium (0.05%) Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum, Fluorine, Chlorine, Iodine, Manganese, Cobalt, Iron (0.70%) Lithium, Strontium, Aluminum, Silicon, Lead, Vanadium, Arsenic, Bromine (trace amounts)

cloud (H2O )Clouds are made of fresh condensate water. The water will evaporation from the sea then it will condense then the clouds will from.

I think most people know that sunlight is made up of light of several different wavelengths, and can be split up into the colors of the rainbow. Blue light has the shorter wavelength, and red the longest wavelength. When sunlight hits the molecules in the atmosphere, the light is absorbed; causing the molecules vibrate and give off, or 're-emit' the light. Because the molecules vibrate in all directions, the light is emitted in all directions (called 'scattering'). Because the blue wavelength is shorter and more energetic, it reacts much more with the air molecules than the red and yellow wavelengths; which tend to pass straight through, or get absorbed by the atmosphere (which warms the air and gives rise to the world's climate). Blue Sky

How soap cleans?

Soap is formed by molecules with a "head" which likes water (hydrophilic) and a long chain that hates it (hydrophobic). so, soap cleans by acting as an emulsifier. It allows oil and water to mix so that oily grime can be removed during rinsing.

How to make invisible ink?

Lemon juice method - Ingredients: just lemon juice. Write your message on a piece of paper with a brush or toothpick embedded in lemon juice. Let it dry completely. To read the message heat the paper for a while (for instance hold it close to a light bulb) until the words become visible. - Chemical explanation: Lemon juice is a mild acid that weakens the paper upon contact. So when you heat the paper the part with the juice burns before the rest making your message visible.
