The Commitment The student must desire to be challenged. To be truly challenged, one must expect to stumble along the way. This is a 3 year commitment. Taking Algebra I in 7th grade sets your student’s math classes for grade 8 and grade 9. The only exit point from this path would be during the 7th grade.

HS Courses Taken in Middle School Courses will be listed on the high school transcript—with credit and grade factored into GPA To decline the credits, an Informed Consent Form must be signed by the parent The Informed Consent Form will be available to parents in the fall of the freshman year and can be signed at any time during high school When opting-out of the credits, both semesters of the course must be declined When declining credits, students may move on to the next course in the sequence; however, the student will most likely need to fulfill additional credits for graduation in that area (this will be explained in detail on the Informed Consent Form)

Algebra Readiness Course (ARC) Khan Academy Algebra 1 Virtual Summer School

Algebra 1 Readiness Course (ARC) Virtual learning opportunity for incoming seventh graders enrolled in Algebra 1 Course preassesses student and assigns related prerequisite skills practice Reports progress to student and parent ARC content may serve as a supplemental resource for your student throughout their Grade 1 Algebra 1 course.

ARC Registration-Student Parent Emails provided in Power School will receive an introduction letter and specific instructions on how to register for ARC. Some students may already have a Khan Academy account created which can be used for this course. New-to-Khan Academy students should sign up to fully access the ARC content. Students must enter their Class Code provided in the parent email which will be sent by June 1, 2017

ARC Registration-Parents Parent should be sure they have their student’s user credentials to register their own parent email tied to your student’s account. This allows parents to receive weekly reports of your student’s progress. Having your email also allows for the access of your student’s user credentials, should they be lost or forgotten.

AVON HIGH SCHOOL Math AP EXAM RESULTS 2004 - 2016

What do the terms “AP” and “dual credit” mean? AP stands for the College Board’s Advanced Placement program, a nationally recognized and rigorous curriculum taught in high schools. The course consists of a class and an examination given in May. A passing score of 3 or higher on a scale of 1-5 will result in the awarding of college credit by most institutions. Dual credit means a student is enrolled in a university (e.g., Vincennes University) and at AHS. The student earns credits on a specific college transcript and can transfer those credits. www.transferin.net

Why talk about AP and dual credit at this early stage? Students planning on going to college should plan on taking dual credit and AP courses during their high school career. Families can begin to map out a plan now for these courses. The 9th grade year is a foundation for the skills and knowledge leading toward college preparation. The grades from freshman year typically will be one-third of the grades colleges will see on applications.
