Welcome to Mrs. Gordon’s Science Class We have begun to implement The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) throughout all of our Addison District 4 Science Classes. The standards are aimed at making science education more closely resemble the way scientists work and think. 5/15/2018

Three Dimesions Science learning centers around three dimensions: the practices through which scientists and engineers do their work; the key crosscutting concepts that link the science disciplines; the core ideas of the disciplines of life, physical, earth and space sciences, engineering and technology. 5/15/2018

Let’s Talk Science A classroom culture is established to encourage students to individually share, expand and clarify their own thinking. Small group discussions are an integral part of this process and students are taught to listen carefully to one another. Students learn to ASK questions as they develop as thinkers and problem solvers through participating in thoughtful talk about core content.

Literacy in Science Reading Log Students are required to read about science, and reflect on their reading using their science reading log for 60 minutes each week. When both sides are complete, students are encouraged to have their parent sign his/her full log at the bottom before turning it in to Mrs. Gordon. Students can read their science lab book, current science journal articles, library books, worldbook online or other approved science internet sites.

Have your child check out science topic books from the Addison Public Library located on Mrs. Gordon’s shelf and take part in the “Hive Lab” ME Challenges. Help your child by assisting him/her to organize their folder and string bag when needed. 5/15/2018
