Emirates Skills World Skills Think Science & First Lego League Competitions Emirates Skills World Skills Think Science & First Lego League Ask teachers to take notes, especially the websites and contact details on the slides. Trainer: please review the videos in advance, there are 4 altogether. You may select one that you will not show if you find you are running out of time. I’d suggest either video on slide 12 or 14. Please note: as the competitions are suitable for different ages, you may wish to get the teachers to sit in groups according to the Grades/Cycles that they teach, tjis will make the tasks on the following slides easier.

These are some of the competition entrants from 2015 Emirates skills competition. Quote from the website: “Since 2006 EmiratesSkills has inspired young Emiratis to embrace new skills and build a career in technical and vocational trades by spreading awareness about opportunities and mentoring them to become the best in their discipline.”   EmiratesSkills is a program under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training -ACTVET. تقديم أ.حصه الطنيجي / أ.أيمن النجار - اللقاء التعريفي بشأن مهارات الإمارات و مبادرة الروبوت

Learning objectives To know which competitions are most suited to the age group of the students you teach. (DT & CDI) 2. To be able to generate ideas on how to encourage students to enter. 3. To know how to enter the competitions and where to find further information on them. 4. To have an introduction to Emirates Skills, World Skills and Think Science.

The Vision Emirates skills : “Our best bet at this period of time where we have wealth is to invest all our resources in education, because there will be a time, 50 years from now, when we load the last barrel of oil aboard the ship. […] If our investment is right — I think, dear brothers and sisters — we celebrate that moment.” Trainer note: At this point you could question teachers on how they interpret the quote and what they think His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s ultimate goal for the Emirates may be. Teachers could respond by discussing in groups of 4/5 and then each group could feed back. You may want to ask groups to write their thoughts on paper.

The WorldSkills Competition (minimum age of entrants is 16) The WorldSkills Competition is a flagship event, held every two years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world that truly reflects global industry. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, manufacturing or other manufacturing processes. The video is hyperlinked in the centre image above, just click on the image to view the video. This video shows Autodesk program being used as by the competitors. Task How as teachers can we enthuse and promote these future careers? In the video what skills/professions did you see? Were there any skills/professions that you have experience in? Do you know someone who is involved in these professions? What nationality are they? How as teachers can we enthuse and promote these future careers? Create a mind map to show your thoughts. Question the teachers. You can choose how to do this eg you could ask individuals to answer the questions on the slide or ask teachers to discuss the questions with the person next to them and then volunteer to share their thoughts. Give them 10mins to create mindmaps.
