REVISION MARCH 2017

PORTION TEST II Surah Al-Hujuraat: Unit E Chapter 1 Lesson 3

Explain verse below and how it benefits you. “O Believers stay away from having a bad opinion of Muslims, because having a bad opinion of good Muslims is a sin. And do not spy (to try to uncover the mistakes and problems of people). And do not talk about each other in a way that the other person would not like (backbiting). Would one of you like to eat from the body of your dead Muslim brother? As you would hate to do this (you should hate backbiting). And fear Allah’s punishment (by immediately stopping any of these sins that you may be doing). (Remember) Allah is the only one who accepts peoples’ repentance and Allah is continuously Merciful.” (Surah Hujuraat, verse 12)

EXPLANATION Surah Al-Hujuraat deals with bad habits people have that harm or destroy the community. These verses are some of the last verses of this Surah. In theses verses Allah talks about the following traits: It is forbidden to hurt people based on just assumption and doubt without proper proof. It is a sin to think bad of our Muslim brother/sister. One should not spy and try to uncover the mistakes and problems of other Muslims.

EXPLANATION cont… We should not backbite about others, saying things about them that they would dislike. It has been compared to eating the flesh of your dead brother. Have Taqwa of Allah, which is the love Allah and fear of displeasing Him. We should fear His punishment and if we have done any of the deeds He has prohibited then we should ask Allah’s forgiveness and the forgiveness of the person we hurt, and we should immediately stop doing the sinful act/deed.

EXPLAIN THE FOLLOWINGHADEETH

Abu Hurayrah narrated that Rasoolullah said: “Allah does not look at your looks and wealth, but He looks at your hearts and deeds.” (Reported in Muslim)

Allah does not look at the figures of His servants, if they are big or small, healthy or sick, nor at their looks if they are white or black, beautiful or not.  He does not look at their lineage, whether it is prestigious or not, nor does He look at their wealth, or any of these factors at all.  The only connection between Allah and His servants is through Taqwa (God-consciousness) and the good deeds he performs for the sake of Allah. Therefore, whoever has more Taqwa of Allah and does good deeds, he/she is closer and more honorable in the sight of Allah.  So do not be proud of your wealth, your beauty and body, your children, your mansions or cars or with any of these worldly matters at all.  However, if Allah has enabled you to do righteous deeds and have Taqwa, then this is from the blessing of Allah upon you, so thank Allah and praise Him for it. Thus, the saying of the Prophet (sallaAllahu alayhe wasallam), “but He looks at your hearts and at what you do” shows that the matter firstly, is all about what is contained within the hearts and then this belief is followed by the good deeds which a person performs.
