The War Has Already Been Won!

IN THE WILDERNESS. Matthew 4:1-11

To act independent of the Father. Verses 1-4

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him,

“If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered,

“It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

To see if He would display His power and position apart from the will of God. Verses 5-7

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him,

“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning

you’ and “‘ On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their

glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”

10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

The power of Truth.

The power of Truth. What He used to defeat Satan.

His example teaches us to know and use this book.

28  When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him and said with a loud voice, “What have you

to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.”

34 When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.

35 Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from

whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

37 Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked him to depart

from them, for they were seized with great fear from them, for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.

The power of His presence. Jesus is the one who defeats Satan.

3. AT THE RESURRECTION. 1 Corinthians 15:54-56, Acts 2:24

54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to

pass the saying that is written:“Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory?

“O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
