Superheroes Writing Assignment Analyzing hero figure characteristics

Grading This assignment will be a completion grade for Writing. For full credit.. Do all three parts. Address the qualities of a hero figure in the writing portion. Use the entire writing space! USE NARRATIVE TRANSITION WORDS!!! (At least one per paragraph) Include a short, powerful headline Today will be the main class time to work on this. Tomorrow we will do a quick proofread and add a headline. Due tomorrow Friday 8 April 2016. You need a place to draft ideas: spiral or scratch paper.

Alter Ego alter (definition): change or cause to change in character ego (definition): a person's sense of self (self-esteem or self-importance) alter + ego = to change a person’s self-being or pride Alter Ego=our “alternate” self Today you will be creating a super hero for your alter ego.

Hero Figure Characteristics Heroes are known for contributing to the community (helping out in some way) or performing heroic acts. A true hero has consistent, noble character traits. In imagination literature, a hero figure may triumph through use of special powers or abilities What will your alter ego superhero contribute? What powers will your alter ego superhero possess? Think about these questions as we begin the assignment.

Part 1 Design your alter ego costume: Draw a costume that would show your alter ego. Draft first, then copy. Will your costume symbolize something that relates to you? Think of how to make your talents and interests “super.” Think about colors showing the personality of someone…

feminine, love, caring, nurture ORANGE: Color Meaning RED: warmth, love, anger, danger, boldness, excitement, speed, strength, energy, determination, desire, passion, courage, socialism PINK: feminine, love, caring, nurture ORANGE: cheerfulness, low cost, affordability, enthusiasm, stimulation, creativity, aggression, food, halloween, liberal (politics) YELLOW: attention-grabbing, comfort, liveliness, cowardice, hunger, optimism, overwhelm, Summer, comfort, liveliness, intellect, happiness, energy, conflict GREEN: durability, reliability, environmental, luxurious, optimism, well-being, nature, calm, relaxation, Spring, safety, honesty, optimism, harmony, freshness BLUE: peace, professionalism, loyalty, reliability, honor, trust, melancholia, boredom, coldness, Winter, depth, stability, professionalism, conservatism PURPLE: power, royalty, nobility, elegance, sophistication, artificial, luxury, mystery, royalty, elegance, magic GRAY: conservatism, traditionalism, intelligence, serious, dull, uninteresting BROWN: relaxing, confident, casual, reassuring, nature, earthy, solid, reliable, genuine, Autumn, endurance BLACK: Elegance, sophistication, formality, power, strength, illegality, depression, morbidity, night, death WHITE: Cleanliness, purity, newness, peace, innocence, simplicity, sterility, snow, ice, cold

Part 2 Design and label your hangout features: Design the interior of your superhero hideaway. Include rooms that would relate to your alter ego superhero. Draft first, then copy.

In the news… News articles and headlines played a key part in the movie The Incredibles. A news article often features stories that we call “human interest.” They tell stories of heroic acts, rescues, or feats. What heroic acts would your alter ego perform?

Part 3 Write a short news article telling about a heroic feat you accomplished. You need 3 paragraphs. Include narrative transition words for each paragraph: Beginning transitions: before meanwhile suddenly first once it started it began Middle transitions: next when as in the meantime then soon after during End transitions: last later at the end finally Beginning paragraph: Include descriptions of super hero (physical, personality, actions, etc.) Middle paragraph: This is the most important event and/or problem in the story. End paragraph: Usually the solution, the message, or how the character feels about how the problem was solved.

Grading Reminders This assignment will be a completion grade for Writing. For full credit.. All three parts have ideas developed—you have done your best to complete each section. A short, effective headline creates interest. The writing part addresses the qualities of a hero figure Contributes to the well-being of someone else: group, individual, mankind Demonstrates consistent noble qualities Uses special abilities or powers Uses narrative transition words in each section. Today will be the primary class time to work on this. Due no later than Friday 8 April 2016.

Part 4 Write a headline for your article. Headlines: Catchy, short, to the point! Complete thoughts not necessary. I would love to have some new samples! This is your TICKET OUT at the end of the first block half.
