Super Hero Databases Lesson 4

Lesson 4 Aims… To know how to create a database report. To understand the difference between a form and a report in MS Access. To be able to create and format a report for your superhero’s database.

Starter Using the Top Trump card template, design the layout your ‘Superhero Top Trump card’. Items to include: Image of superhero Superhero categories Background colour Font type, size, colour Title font type, size, colour

Activity 1 – Create a Report Using MS Access, create a new report using ‘report wizard’.

Activity 1 – Create a Report Take across all the field EXCEPT for ‘ID’. Click ‘Next’.

Activity 1 – Create a Report Select ‘Columar’ and continue to ‘Finish’. Save as “rpt_superheros”

Activity 2 – Formatting Report Go to ‘design view’ of the form. Delete the ‘Report Header’. In design view: Remove the label Superhero Remove the Report Header space by moving the “Page Header” to meet the “Report Header”.

Activity 2 – Formatting Report Cut & paste the ‘Picture label & content’ to move above the rest of the details.

Activity 2 – Formatting Report Make the ‘’Picture’ label invisible by: Clicking on the ‘Properties’ for the ‘Picture_Label’. Under ‘Visible’ select “No”.

Activity 2 – Formatting Report Format the report to look like a ‘Top Trumps’ card by: Amending the width size of the ‘Picture_label’ in the properties bar to 1.5cm Amending the width to 2cm & height to 3cm for the ‘Picture’ box. Shorten the width for the other labels by dragging the line in.

Activity 3 – Formatting Text Format the text in the report by: Changing font type Change font size Change font colour

Activity 4 – Fireworks Open a new canvas in Adobe Fireworks CS4. Pixels – Width = 400 Height = 600 Use the ‘Round rectangle’ tool to create a basic shape.

Activity 4 cont’d... Select All by clicking on the background shape & pressing ‘CTRL + A’ on your keyboard. Select ‘Modify’ – ‘Flatten selection’ to make the template into one bitmap.

Activity 4 cont’d... Copy & paste the ‘card template’ into your MS Access Report. Send the image to the back. Resize the image. In ‘Properties’, change ‘Clip’ to ‘zoom’. Re-position the card details.
