Not all video games are harmful By Rudy Li

Subtopics Effects of video games mentally Shows the beneficial effects and the harmful effects mentally of video games Effects of video games socially and emotionally Shows how some videos games have beneficial effects socially and emotionally Effects of different genres of video games alter effects Shows that genres of video games does make a difference in effects both beneficially and negatively

Effects of Video games mentally Synthesis In the article, “The Effects of Video Games on Cognition and Brain Structure: Potential Implications for Neuropsychiatric Disorders” by Tahireh A. Shams, George Foussias, John A. Zawadzki… At AI, helps me to argue that some video games are not harmful by showing that a table of different video games have many beneficial mental effects including: working memory, processing speed, etc. As for the potentially harmful mental effects, these sources would help me answer that through video game addiction. “Online Video Game addiction Identification of Addicted Adolescent Gamers” by Van Rooij, Antonius J ; Schoenmakers, Tim M … At AI. And “Computer and Video Game Addiction—A Comparison between Game Users and Non-Game Users” by Aviv Malkiel Weinstein, Ph.D, provides me with information about video addiction and shows that video games can be harmful. It has also shown me that video game addiction is a real thing and addiction-like effects happen because of the release of dopamine in the brain creating a sense of enjoyment. Although Van R. has also shown that despite that were children addicted, there seems to be no damage to their mental health.

Effects of video games mentally Title: The Effects of Video Games on Cognition and Brain Structure: Potential Implications for Neuropsychiatric Disorders Author: Tahireh A. Shams, George Foussias, John A. Zawadzki… At AI This source helps me to argue that video games can improve you mental health in certain areas proving that not all video games are harmful because of the benefits. In this source, they have tested all sorts of video games in numerous types of genres on both health volunteers and people with mental disorder and through their research they have shown on a table that video games have improved mental health including: working memory, processing speed, perceptual organization, executive functioning, etc. This also provides me with background information about how video games affect a person’s brain in terms of gray and white matter to show specifically what happens to create the effects.

Effects of video games mentally Title: Online Video Game addiction Identification of Addicted Adolescent Gamers Author: Van Rooij, Antonius J ; Schoenmakers, Tim M … At AI This source provide me with background information about video games addiction and helps me to show that some video game addiction is a real thing and can make children yearn to play video games. Is has also shown that video games can create addiction-like problems such as depressive moods, loneliness and negative self-esteem. This source also helps me to argue not all video games are harmful because the experts determined that although the children may have addicted like symptoms, there seems to be no damage to their mental health.

Effects of video games mentally Title: Computer and Video Game Addiction—A Comparison between Game Users and Non- Game Users Author: Aviv Malkiel Weinstein, Ph.D. This source provides me with information about how people get addicted to video games and more background information about the effects of video games mentally to prove that some video games are harmful. It shows that people gets addicted to the experience and the emotional state of enjoyment from the release of dopamine in the brain by testing gamers and non-gamers for their population. It has show that the dopamine is reduced each time they score accomplish a goal similar to common addictions such as: gambling, drugs, sex, etc.

Effects of video games socially and emotionally Synthesis In the article, “Online Video Game addiction Identification of Addicted Adolescent Gamers” written by Van Rooij, Antonius J ; Schoenmakers, Tim M … At AI, it gives background information about the harmful effect of video games to a person’s social and emotional effects when addicted to video games which includes: depressive moods, loneliness and negative self- esteem. For the benefits of video games socially and emotionally these two sources have helped me to show that there are some video games that are beneficial which includes: “There's no “I” in team: Effects of cooperative video games on cooperative behavior” by Tobias Greitemeyer, Christoper Cox and “Effects of Prosocial, neutral, and violent video games on children’s helpful and hurtful behaviors” by Muniba Saleem, Crag A. Anderson, Douglas A. Gentile. These sources helps me to argue that there are video games that improve social health and emotional health by become more prosocial to society and shown that violent video games are harmful to children by influencing violent but actually improves social health for Muniba’s population.

Effects of video games socially and emotionally Title: Online Video Game addiction Identification of Addicted Adolescent Gamers Author: Van Rooij, Antonius J ; Schoenmakers, Tim M … At AI This source provides me with background information that video game can really be harmful and will be harmful if you do not use them in moderation. Once addicted to video games, if can create addiction-like problems such as depressive moods, loneliness and negative self-esteem which is a big harmful effect to social and emotion health. This may also help strengthen my argument by showing that some video games are harmful and which will help show that there are video games that are not harmful.

Effects of video games socially and emotionally Title: There's no “I” in team: Effects of cooperative video games on cooperative behavior Author: Tobias Greitemeyer, Christoper Cox This is an argumentative source and it helps me to argue that video games have beneficial social effects. Cox has shown that video games promotes cooperative behaviors and in this population, violent video games have actually demonstrated positive effects rather that violent or harmful behaviors. This helps me to argue that although some violent video games may be harmful to a person’s social health, not all violent video games are harmful to them.

Effects of video games socially and emotionally Title: Effects of Prosocial, neutral, and violent video games on children’s helpful and hurtful behaviors Author: Muniba Saleem, Crag A. Anderson, Douglas A. Gentile This source helps me argue that not all video games are harmful and in this study prosocial video games have influenced children to become more prosocial and violent video games have influenced children to be more violent. This source also provides me with background information that it is possible that possible only children will have negative effects of violent video games because they are still in their developmental phase. Overall this source has shown me that video games can be a double edged sword and shows me that some video games are harmful but in the same way they can be beneficial to the a child’s social health with very powerful image to help me show that.

Effects of different genres of video games alter effects Title: The Effects of Video Games on Cognition and Brain Structure: Potential Implications for Neuropsychiatric Disorders Author: Tahireh A. Shams, George Foussias, John A. Zawadzki… At AI This source helps me to argue that not all video games harmful by showing effects of all sources of effects of a wide variety of genres including: action games, biofeedback, real-world simulation, stategy/navigation, puzzle/memory/brain training, saccadic curvature, racing and exer-games. It have shown many effect of each of the types of video games through showing how the gray matter and the white matter of the brain has moved. Essentially, this source has shown that video games have a list of beneficial effects and can improve patient’s conditions that has a mental disorder. Through their research they have shown on a table that video games have improved many vital areas for our modern day society including: working memory, processing speed, perceptual organization, executive functioning, etc.

Effects of different genres of video games alter effects Author: Muniba Saleem, Crag A. Anderson, Douglas A. Gentile Title: Effects of Prosocial, neutral, and violent video games on children’s helpful and hurtful behaviors This source helps me argue that prosocial video games are not harmful because it has show that prosocial video games has improved prosocial behaviors to their peers. It has also show that violent video games make children more likely to be more violent towards their peers. This source helps me argue that the type of video games does matter in determining whether or not which genre of video games are harmful or which one is beneficial.

Effects of different genres of video games alter effects Author: Tobias Greitemeyer, Dirk O. Mügge Title: Video Games Do Affect Social Outcomes: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Effects of Violent and Prosocial Video Game Play This article helps me argue that even in the genre of violent video games there are still some populations where it is not harmful. It has shown that prosocial video games are beneficial and are not harmful and by changing the genre to violent video games some people do indeed become more violent but not in all cases. It has also shown that cooperative video games influences cooperative and helpful behaviors.

Effects of different genres of video games alter effects Synthesis In the source, “The Effects of Video Games on Cognition and Brain Structure: Potential Implications for Neuropsychiatric Disorders” by Tahireh A. Shams, George Foussias, John A. Zawadzki… At AI, helps me to argue that there are many games with beneficial effect that are not harmful at all in a wide variety as well. In the source, “Effects of Prosocial, neutral, and violent video games on children’s helpful and hurtful behaviors” by Muniba Saleem, Crag A. Anderson, Douglas A. Gentile, it helps us to argue that the genres does make an impact on whether or not the that video game is harmful or not for a child. In Tobias Greitemeyer, Dirk O. Mügge’s article, “Video Games Do Affect Social Outcomes: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Effects of Violent and Prosocial Video Game Play,” helps me argue that some violent video games are not harmful and prosocial games have beneficial effects proving that not all video games are harmful.
