KCI Preferred Charities Key Club International has 4 Preferred Charities: Children’s Miracle Network March of Dimes UNICEF The Thirst Project

Children’s Miracle Network CMN supports hospitalized children and increases awareness of its member hospitals. Benefits hospitals by helping to purchase proper equipment Trains doctors and implements outreach programs Provides healthcare for children whose parents struggle financially

Children’s Miracle Network (cont’d.) IHOP National Pancake Day In honor of National Pancake Day, IHOP serves free pancakes. All donations are given to the Children’s Miracle Network. Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day Proceeds from every Blizzard Treat are donated to hospitals of the Children’s Miracle Network.

March of Dimes This organization strives to prevent birth defects, promote healthy pregnancy, and provide medical support for premature infants. Fun Fact: March of Dimes was established by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to fight polio.

March of Dimes (cont’d.) March for Babies Walks occur annually in many cities across the country. Get involved by forming a team of Key Clubbers and effectively fundraising prior to the event. Volunteer at set-up and check-in or help with face painting. For more information, visit their website: www.marchforbabies.org

UNICEF—The Eliminate Project Kiwanis International and UNICEF have come together to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the earth. +

UNICEF—The Eliminate Project (cont’d.) What is MNT? Exists in 20 countries worldwide Occurs when tetanus spores in the soil come into contact with open cuts during childbirth Causes newborns to suffer painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch Both newborns and mothers die What can we do to help? 3 doses of 60-cent immunization ($1.80) can protect mothers and their future babies As of June, 2016 the CNH District has $60,0000 left in order to complete its pledge of $500,000 by 2020. Be sure to participate in Eliminate Week! Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF with your club!

The Thirst Project Mission: Build a socially-conscious generation of young people who end the global water crisis. Works with students and schools around the world to fund clean water wells Newest preferred charity of Key Club International

The Thirst Project (cont’d.) Safe drinking water lowers disease rates (HIV, malaria, cholera, dysentery, etc.) Lessens travel time to obtain water Average journey: 3.75 miles Women experience fatigue, dehydration, miscarriages Youth unable to receive an education Communities become agriculturally sustainable
