DISTRICT 6460 AND THE ROTARY FOUNDATION Everyone loves PowerPoint! President of my club 2010-2011, so I am not far removed from being a PE. I seem to recall that I was on “information overload” but the good news is that you get through it. So my plan is to not overwhelm you further with too much info, but rather to simply share a few key details that you really do need to know, and challenge you to pick an area of focus or two in regards to The Rotary Foundation and your club

In the next few minutes… What we’ll cover: First, my disclaimer… Brief overview of TRF and Annual Fund-SHARE system (confusing?) Share some good news with you about D6460’s contributions YTD Challenges. Opportunities. Goal setting…goal setting…goal setting… Things I have learned in the past 6 months Note about Service vs. financial support: my job

The Rotary Foundation is … The charitable arm of Rotary International Rated as one of the top charities in the world (4-Star by Charity Navigator) OUR charity, as Rotarians…it should be our charity of choice

Mission Statement: To enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Rotary Foundation’s Centennial Year 5/15/2018 The Rotary Foundation’s Centennial Year 2016 The centennial celebration began at the Rotary International Convention in Seoul, Korea, 2017 The celebration culminates at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, 10-14 June www.rotary.org/foundation100 In 2016-17, The Rotary Foundation will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The centennial festivities will begin at the 2016 convention in Seoul and end with a celebration at the 2017 convention in Atlanta.   All Rotarians are invited to join in this year of celebration. Clubs can organize centennial events to share our Foundation’s many successes with their communities. You can also continue the Foundation’s tradition of Doing Good in the World by supporting and participating in global and district grant projects. Or you can honor the Foundation’s history by contributing to the Annual Fund, the Endowment Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, or the Rotary Peace Centers. In 1917, the seeds of the Foundation were planted with a call to action from the Rotary president and a contribution of $26.50. Today, The Rotary Foundation has $1 billion in assets and an impressive record of improving millions of lives. Our Foundation has come a long way — let’s take a look at how we got here. EXTRA: See more ways to celebrate the centennial at www.rotary.org/foundation100.

SUPPORTING THE ROTARY FOUNDATION PolioPlus Fund End Polio Now Rotarians support our Foundation through: The PolioPlus Fund, dedicated to global polio eradication The Annual Fund, primary source of funding for Foundation grants and activities The Endowment Fund, which supports the Foundation in perpetuity Annual Fund For Support Today Endowment Fund To Secure Tomorrow

END POLIO NOW…ALONG WITH BILL AND MELINDA GATES! Rotary’s own financial support for PolioPlus will be magnified by an agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. From 2013 to 2018, every $1 that Rotary commits in direct support of polio immunization (up to $35 million per year) will be matched by an additional $2 from the Gates Foundation. This means contributions to Rotary’s PolioPlus program will have three times the impact.

ENDOWMENT FUND Held in perpetuity Contributions are professionally invested Only the earnings are spent A great way to leave a legacy Gifts to the Endowment Fund are held in perpetuity as part of an endowment. They are professionally invested, with a portion of the earnings used each year for purposes specified by the Trustees and the donors. The Endowment Fund offers donors a way to create their own lasting legacy through Rotary.

ANNUAL FUND Primary funding source for Foundation grants and activities Supports local and international grants through the SHARE system Contributions are credited to donor’s club and applied to club’s goal Perception of Local vs. International Contributions to the Annual Fund support local and international grants and activities through the SHARE system.
