Alternates for the week: Math We continued with Chapter 10: Weight. In this chapter students will compare things based on their weight using the terms light, heavy, and as heavy as and find the weight of things in nonstandard and standard units of measurement. Science We wrapped up our Rainforest unit and started a new unit, Magnets! Be sure to check out the animoto video emailed earlier this week to see our amazing rainforest and your child’s hard work! This week we learned the properties of a magnet. Students learned that magnets can pull and push, only attract to steel and iron, and have a north and south side. We also learned how to separate magnetic objects from non-magnetic objects faster. Social Studies We had a lot of fun counting in Japanese. We counted, chanted, and made a mini-book on numbers 1-5 in Japanese. Ask your child to count for you! 1. ichi (ee-chee) 2. ni (knee) 3. san (sahn) 4. shi (she) 5. go (go) We also read the book, If I Lived in Japan. Students learned a little about Japanese culture and used context clues to try to figure out some of the Japanese words. Ask them if they can tell you how to say any words in Japanese!
