As a Christian, Is God’s Military Service Mandatory or Voluntary?

God’s Army 2 Tim 2:4 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Eph 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm

God’s Military Service John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” Matt 12:30  “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Training In God’s Army

Be Strong in the Lord Eph 6 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 

Be Strong in the Lord Cont. Phil 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Isa 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Full Armor of God Eph 6 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Stand Stand Against, Strong, Firm James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you 1 Cor 16:13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

Breastplate of Righteousness Righteousness of Christ, imputed by God and received by faith ( 2 Cor. 5:21) Repent and be forgiven of our sins Do what is right in God’s eyes Guard the hearts  Sad, harden, and broken hearts

Sword of the Spirit Word of God Defense and Offense Holiness and power Protect and fight off enemy

Defend Against the Enemy Heb 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart Jesus defeats Satan Matt 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, ’Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ "

Offense Destroy Strongholds Against Spiritual Forces 2 Cor 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ Against Spiritual Forces Eph 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms

Pray Eph 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Pray Cont. In Spirit - With the mind of Christ, with His heart and His priorities Rom 8 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
