OVERCOMING Fear

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.” 2 Timothy 1:6-8 NIV

Good Fear - Bad Fear WW Reasonable or normal fear is a Good thing It warns us of dangerous situations, likely to cause pain, or a threat God created us with this emotion to protect us Without reasonable fear we would not survive long!

Good Fear - Bad Fear WW Excessive or abnormal fear is Bad! It’s unreasonable and destructive It’s Bad for our physical health It’s Bad for our mental health And it’s really Bad for our Spiritual health!!! – Mark 4:35-40

Fear and God’s Will WW Excessive fear hinders us from doing God’s Will It’s one of Satan’s favorite tools! – 2 Timothy 1:6-9; Luke 22:54-62 Excessive fear takes over when our source of security is not strong enough to sustain us – Matthew 14:25-31

Fear and God’s Will WW God calls us to be strong and courageous We need strength and courage to carry out God’s will – Joshua 1:6-9; Matthew 28:18-20; James 1:27; 1 Timothy 6:17-19 We must overcome the fears that hinder us from doing God’s Will! – Matthew 10:28-31; 25:24-30, 34-46

OVERCOMING Fear WW God has given us a gift to overcome fear A spirit of power – Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:18-20; 3:16, 20 And of love – 1 John 4:18; 5:3-5; 3:16; Matthew 22:36-40 And of self-discipline – Galatians 5:23; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

OVERCOMING Fear WW We are more than conquerors through him . . . Nothing or no one can separate us from the love of God! – Romans 8:35-39 I can do ALL things through him . . . – Philippians 4:13
