Information We identified our rock as an igneous rock, specifically obsidian. The chemical formula of obsidian is mostly silicon dioxide (SiO2) with a bit of magnesium oxide (MgO) and iron II,III oxide aka magnetite (Fe3O4) mixed in. n

Lunar geological facts 98% of all lunar rocks are plagioclase feldspar, pyroxene, olivine, and ilmenite. Because of the conditions, metamorphic or sedimentary rocks are unlikely to form on the moon. Many minerals on the moon have a chemical formula similar to that of obsidian. (e.g. pyroxene, olivine, plagioclase) Because of lack of O2, most lunar iron-ish minerals can become magnetized without it rusting. Most lunar rocks are igneous from when it was forming or from interlunar or meteorical collisions. t

I think it could be a lunar rock because: Is it lunar? I think it could be a lunar rock because: * It is igneous * It is mostly silica which is similar to lunar rocks * Iron compounds are found in obsidian * And the atomic diffusion when magma is formed means it does have crystals but are unseen. e
