Grammar rules: In english some nouns have gender – mainly living beings. The woman = female The table = no gender The thought = no gender In spanish all nouns have gender La mujer = female La mesa = female El pensamiento = male
Grammar rules: To determine which Spanish nouns are feminine and which ones are masculine one must look at ending of the word. Generally nouns that end in the letter “a” are considered feminine …and nouns that end in the letter “o” are masculine Nouns that end in other vowels, such as “e” can be either feminine or masculine. (you will learn them on time).
In English and in Spanish one cannot predict the gender of a noun, except in the case of living creatures. Do not try to analyze the nature of the object, looking for some inherent masculinity or femininity. It won't work! Look at spelling.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ENGLISH AND SPANISH: When writing a sentence in Spanish, articles and adjectives must match the gender and number of the noun. Examples: The friend of Emily is very tall. La amiga de Emily es muy alta. El amigo de Emily es muy alto.
