Balance Day Adjustments: Prepayments Prepayments represent the apportioning of amounts already in the ledger to different accounting periods- this is different to accruals because they are not already in the ledger. Prepaid Expenses Are expenses that have been paid and recorded in the current accounting period but will not be incurred until a future accounting period. Prepaid expenses are amounts owing to the business and are therefore assets.
