LESSONS 13, 14 & 15 Module 4: Working with Images Final Project

In this lesson, we will: Apply our experience in Expression Design to create 3 new banners. Design a banner for children, peer, and adult sites. Display your work for peer evaluation Lesson 13, 14, and 15 Overview

Guiding Questions What must a designer consider when creating a banner for a client such as children? What must a designer consider when creating a banner for a client such as teens? What must a designer consider when creating a banner for a client such as adults? Why use Microsoft Expression Design for banners? Use the guiding questions as a class starter, allowing the students time to answer the questions in their journal. Discuss student answers to the questions.

Web site Learn Expression: http://www.learnexpression.com/?ad=ms Use Web site to give background information and show examples.

Scenario Jammin’ Music Videos just called our school looking for designers to create 3 banners for their Web site. Their Web site showcases home music videos of people of all ages. Jammin’ Music Videos are in need of a banner for their: Children’s page Teens’ page Adults’ page Student Activity

Final Project Sketch 3 ideas for each banner in your journal. (10-15 minutes) Share sketches and give feedback with a partner. Pick your final 3 sketches. Add color to the final choices. Show your final 3 sketches to me for approval. Start working in Expression Design using the same tools as in the tutorial. After each banner is completed, save banner file in your folder. Student Activity

Peer Walk Open your children banner. Put your name on the top of a piece of lined paper. Place the paper in front of your computer station. When it’s time, stop at the next computer and write a comment about your peer’s banner. You will continue to rotate when I give the signal. NO PUT-DOWNS. Be specific with feedback: “I really like the color choice because primary colors represent children” (instead of “I really like your colors”). Student Activity

If time permits: Scan your logo, banner, and navigation tool (created in previous sections) and save into your Image folder. Insert your images, add text, and color in Expression Design to create the look of your very own Web page! Extra Activity

Lesson Review Describe your experience using Expression Design to meet a client’s needs. Summary

Assessment What must the designer consider when creating a banner for a club for retired baseball players? Name three functions in Expression Design you could teach to your peers. Explain how you would complete each function step by step. Ask students to answer the questions in their journal, with a partner, or as a whole class.
