Rendering to a movie file File format depends on purpose: Internet (YouTube) - highly compressed file, eg. ogg file DVD - high quality, larger movie file for DVD (able to be played on large full screen or projected)

DVD authoring and burning DVDStyler (Win, Linux) is a free (open source, GPL) easy-to-use DVD authoring program, which combines audio and video files into VOB files and produces the DVD menu(s) for your movie. => Your movie files are now ready for burning to DVD.

My setup Canon HV40 (high definition camcorder using miniDV tape). Transfer movie footage from tape to computer using dvgrab shell script (batch file). Cinelerra for video editing and rendering. DVDStyler for DVD authoring. K3b for burning to DVD.
