Thesis Statement The Quilt

This…is a quilt. …It has fishies…I mean– FISHES.

The thesis of this quilt is the thread used to put it together it is what holds the entire thing in place… every fish or idea– is held together by the thesis/the thread.

This means that THE OCEAN is the THEME. THESIS is an idea, phrase, or question that threads your paper together. You are probably wondering why FISH isn’t the thesis. FISH is the MAIN IDEA of the quilt. This means that THE OCEAN is the THEME.

THESIS= Thread Main Idea=FISH Theme=OCEAN

Now, you try to figure out the Thesis, Theme, and Main Idea of the following quilts:

#1 Thesis=? Main Idea? Theme?

#1 Thesis=thread

#1 Thesis=thread Theme?

#1 Thesis=thread Theme= Disney

#1 Thesis=thread Theme= Disney Main Idea?

#1 Thesis=thread Theme=Disney Main Idea= Disney Princesses

Thesis Activity Partner Up. Put both of your names on the paper. Label the paper “Thesis Activity”

Thesis Activity Instructions We are going to watch a movie trailer. Hopefully this is one that you know/have seen before. Then we are going to (as a class) create a thesis, identify a theme, and a main idea for it. The trailer we watch after this one you will do with your partner. We will check in with each other between. Don’t correct your responses– learn from them by identifying why they are wrong and writing that down.

What are movie trailers? What’s their purpose? What elements do you usually see in a movie trailer? Why?
