Reading Critical Decoding Thinking Comprehending Critical Thinking Successful readers decode text quickly, understand what they have read and are able to apply critical thinking skills to develop ideas and apply other knowledge to what they have read. Readers who struggle with decoding read very slowly, using more working memory which in turn affects reading comprehension. Access to a reader enables these students to ‘show what they know’.
