Arab Union of Electricity Activities During the year 2016 Summary Arab Union of Electricity Activities During the year 2016 Fawzi Kharbat General Secretary

Establishment and aims Arab Union of Electricity was established in 1987 , with the following aims: 1- Improving and developing the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy in the Arab World. 2- Developing, improving and coordinating the areas of interest of its members and strengthening the relationship among them.

Members Almost all Arab Ministries and Utilities of Electricity are active members in the AUE. Many of the manufacturing companies in the electrical field are associate members. The active members are currently 30 while the associate members are 20 and the observing members are 2. They all form the General Assembly of AUE. The Board of Directors includes 10 members, and is appointed every three years from the active members. The AUE Secretariat is based in Amman- Jordan hosted by the National Electric Power Company.

Achievements during 2016: Holding the General Conference of AUE in Morocco – during 26-28 January 2016 Signing a memorandum of Understanding with El SEWEDY Electric Co. for sponsoring AUE for the year 2016 . Holding a training courser in cooperation with ESCWA and NEPCO/ Jordan in Amman during 4-5 Sept. 2016 about the Energy Efficiency and conservation of Energy.

Board of Directors & General Assembly Meetings Three meetings of the board of Directors and two of the General Assembly were held in Morocco, and in Jordan during 2016

Committees meetings Four committees out of six held their meetings in the year 2016: Distribution Committee in Jordan Renewable Committee in Tunis Engineering Committee in Saudi Arabia Interconnection Committee in Egypt.

AUE participated in the following events in 2016: Experts meeting of Renewable Energy and energy Efficiency belong to LAS in Cairo during 23 – 24 March 2016. Jordan Energy Conference in Amman-16-17 May 2016 Executive Bureau meeting of the Arab Electricity Council and Arab Forum of Renewable Energy in Cairo during 31 May-2nd June 2016. OME conference:” Electrical Interconnection in the frame of a Euro-Med Sustainable Energy Future”, in Tunis 29-30 Sept. 2016.

Gulf CIGRE Exhibition in Doha –Qatar 8-10 Nov. 2016 7th Arab - German Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi 16-17 Nov 2011 Third International Investment Forum of renewable Energy in Jordan during 5-7 December 2016.
