What is WordPress? WordPress is a website management tool that we use to create and edit our blogs. Within WordPress you can change the appearance, add / remove content or add new features through plugins. The supported theme (template) for the LSSS accounts is The BigBang theme. Using this theme gives you access to support.
WordPress sites are used by many different teams
Requesting a site A new WordPress site can be requested by contacting IT or via the DTS request a service pages on the intranet. Before you do this please consider: Why does the information need to be in a WordPress site. What other information platforms will this conflict with. Do you have the time / resource to keep this updated.
Accessing your WordPress site Go to blogs.shu.ac.uk/yoursite/wp-admin Next log in using your SHU login
The Dashboard This is the core menu which will help you navigate around different features such as plugins and appearance changes.
Viewing the site and making quick changes 1.Go to Site name then visit site 2.Navigate to the page and click edit page

Adding images or documents to pages From the edit page button click on add media Click on upload files and upload any images / documents. This will add it to your media library. You can now select it from your media library and Insert into page.
Adding videos to pages If you want to upload a video make sure you have first uploaded it to YouTube. A YouTube URL can be pasted onto a page in WordPress and it will automatically embed it for you!
Working with accordions Many of our directorate sites use accordions to display lots of information in a way which is easy to navigate The best way to create a new accordion is to copy and paste an existing one and change the text and title within it.
Finding out more WordPress is easy to use however has some advanced features, if you would like to use some of these features more plenty of tutorials can be found online.
